Transhumance is an ancient tradition, that over the centuries has marked the history and appearance of the people and lands of Abruzzo.
The "Tratturo Magno", The main one of the sheep tracks, It is made up of a dense network of grass paths - in some cases authentic “Highways”, in other barely recognizable lanes- that descend from the mountains of Abruzzo and cross valleys, villages and small towns up to the plains of the Tavoliere della Puglia.
In September, shepherds walk south with their flocks, to look for non-frozen pastures and milder climates; And then in May you turn around and head back north, Heading home, In search of freshly sprouted mountain grasses after the snowmelt, on pastures kept green by the climate of the mountains of Abruzzo.
The ZERO edition of the “Transhumance by motorbike” inaugurates a new season of the initiatives of the “Heroic in motion”: always of “Motorcycle touring in nature” It is a, Slow and gentle, Safe & Fun, but that from walking on dirt roads enjoyable with every all-terrain bike ends up climbing on much more impervious paths, Suitable for agile and light motors, single-cylinder engines of the Honda CRF type, Royal Enfield Himalayan, glorious Dominator or XT.
We've done some experiments in the solitary vanguard, And we had a blast – Now it's time to An experimental survey in a small group of heroic loyalists, with a Good off-road driving experience, A great desire to drive and put yourself to the test, and riding motorcycles with a maximum weight of 160 Kg, with your own luggage.
On weekends from 11 July to 14 July we will then travel along the "Tratturo Magno" from Celano to Foggia, Along a track to be conquered kilometer by kilometer, and that in some places it will be to be discovered or “invent”, for a total of about 350 km to the South. The return will be on paved roads, Secondary and panoramic, for about other 250 km.
Outline programme
11/07: Meeting by 19.00 at the Hotel Restaurant “The Gorges” in Celano;
12/07: distance of approximately 170 Km to Bagnoli del Trigno;
13/07: distance of approximately 170 Km to Foggia;
14/07: road route of about 250 Km back to Celano.
The participation fee of 200 Euro is a contribution to the general coordination costs; All personal expenses (Living room, Dinners, petrol, etc.) are individually charged.
